Montessori (2.5 to 3.5 years)

Children at this age group are looking for more independence, and those with a sense of security, trust and self-confidence tend to learn better. This can be developed through fostering bonds with teachers. The curriculum gives these children the opportunity to choose their activities based on their interest and needs, and then interact and extend their learnings.


Language Acquisition
The learning outcome of the language curriculum for this age group is, children should understand adjectives and pronouns, should understand and respond to directional words. Their expressive language skills should include who, where and why questions.


Motor and Sensory skills
By this age children performs running and jumping activities confidently, insists of doing things independently. The developmental milestones of a 2.5 years of child are opening a rotating door handle (fine motor), going upstairs and downstairs without support (gross motor), etc. The curriculum often blends with many activities such as free play, scribbling, play gym, outdoor play to achieve the developmental milestones.
Children use their senses to explore and try to make sense of the world around them. They do this by touching, tasting, smelling, seeing, moving and hearing. Sensory play activities as a part of curriculum helps language development, cognitive growth, fine motor skills and gross motor skills, problem solving skills and social interactions.


Cognition and Memory
By 2.5 years children enjoys floor play activities and begin to start imaginative play. The goal is to make them ready for Primary School as by 3.5 years, typically developing children should begin to learn through observations and adult explanation. Play activities involving puzzles, memory games tend to improve their memory and cognition.


Aesthetics and Creative Expression (ACE)
Art and music and movement offer opportunities for children to express themselves and engage in problem-solving, creative thinking and application of knowledge. As toddler children enjoy art, music and imagination; at play group age (2.5 to 3.5) children should express their ideas and feelings through art, music and bodily movements.


Social and Emotional Development
Having developed social skills help children to compete with other problem behaviours; they may be prone to have or meet others. It is essential to have a good development of the social skills to have both a positive attitude and to solve the conflicts that may arise – such as externalizing, bullying or hyperactivity. Children should exhibit spontaneous affection for familiar playmates at this age, should label feelings of self and others, develops sense of humour. Learning activities are based on the above goals.


Nature & Science
Our children are encouraged to observe and talk about living things, non-living things, places and events around them. Children will be able to widen their knowledge, acquire the essential skills and understanding to make sense of the world around them through such activities. This helps to sustain their curiosity to explore the world and lays the foundation for geography, history and science lessons in the future.
